The joys and sorrows of China's photovoltaic industry: focusing on development and ignoring the joys and sorrows of China's photovoltaic industry

OFweek Solar Photovoltaic Network News: The ancient legend of Kuafu chasing the sun reflects the worship of the sun by ancient Chinese. After more than ten years of hard work, China has grown into the world's largest producer and application country of solar energy products, and has become a leader in industrial development. But the road to the day is long. Behind the dazzling halo of China's photovoltaic industry, the problem of abandoning light and limiting power has become more and more serious. For a long time, the development idea of emphasizing development over consumption needs to be changed.

China PV "leads" the world

In the international market, China's photovoltaic industry has become a well deserved leader. Since 2008, the output of photovoltaic cells in China has ranked first in the world for eight consecutive years, providing more than 70% of the world's photovoltaic cell products.

The latest BP World Energy Statistics Yearbook 2016 shows that in 2015, China's solar power generation grew 69.7% year on year, becoming the country with the largest growth rate. China has surpassed Germany and the United States to become the world's largest solar power producer.

In 2015, China's newly added photovoltaic power generation capacity was about 15 GW, with a year-on-year growth of more than 40%, accounting for more than a quarter of the world's newly added installed capacity. In 2016, due to the impact of the "630" photovoltaic power generation subsidy, the domestic photovoltaic industry showed a rush to install in the first half of the year, and a large number of photovoltaic power station projects were concentrated to catch up with the "last bus" of preferential policies.

Wang Bohua, secretary-general of China Photovoltaic Industry Association, said that although there is no official data on new installed capacity in the first half of the year, according to the statistics of the State Grid alone, the installed capacity in the second quarter exceeded 13 gigawatts, and that in the first half of the year exceeded 20 gigawatts, an increase of more than three times over the same period last year. The overall situation is overheated.

He predicted that the annual new installed capacity would reach 25-30 GW, or even more. "China will still maintain the first place in the world in terms of new PV installations, and will be far ahead."

"During the 13th Five Year Plan period, China will add between 15 million kilowatts and 20 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power generation each year, maintaining the strongest growth in the world." National Energy Administration Director Nur Baikeli said.

After more than ten years of rapid development, China has become a major exporter of photovoltaic capital and technology, and a global leader in technological innovation. The pace of going global of China's photovoltaic enterprises has been accelerating, undertaking EPC projects, setting up plants and exporting mature technologies abroad.

With the advancement of technology, the cost of photovoltaic power generation in China is declining and the economy is rising. During the "Twelfth Five Year Plan" period, the cost of photovoltaic power generation in China decreased by nearly 70%, reaching less than 1 yuan per kilowatt hour. However, compared with conventional energy power generation such as thermal power and hydropower, it is still about twice the cost of conventional energy power generation.

According to the industry development plan, during the "13th Five Year Plan" period, China's photovoltaic power generation construction and power generation costs continued to decrease. By 2020, they will be 30% lower than that in 2015. The construction cost in the central and eastern regions will be reduced to 7-8 yuan per watt, and the power generation cost will be about 0.8 yuan per kilowatt hour; The construction cost in the western region is reduced to 6-7 yuan per watt, and the power generation cost is about 0.7 yuan per kilowatt hour. The construction cost of solar thermal power generation is below 20 yuan per watt, and the power generation cost is close to 1 yuan per kilowatt hour.

"There is still much room for the price of photovoltaic cell modules to decline in the future. In addition, with the large-scale production and promotion, the cost of photovoltaic power generation in China is expected to fall below 50 cents in the future." Zhu Yuanhao, president of Shanghai New Energy Industry Association, said that ten years ago, the photovoltaic industry had always had a dream of reducing the price of modules to less than $1, when the price was $4. Now, driven by technological innovation, the price of components has dropped below US $0.5, and the goal in the next few years is to reduce it to about 1 yuan. At present, it is not difficult to reduce to 2 yuan.
